Leaders of the National Unity Platform in Tooro Sub-region are divided over calls for peaceful demonstrations by the party president, Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu.
For the past few weeks, Hon. Kyagulanyi, a
former presidential candidate, has been calling for peaceful demonstrations
across the country in a bid to force President Kaguta Museveni to step down
from the presidency.
Kyagulanyi also says that hundreds of his supporters are being illegally
detained in different places in the country over unclear reasons and has been clamoring
for peaceful demonstrations to compel their release.
As Tooro NUP members prepares to respond to the call, Mr. Thomas Kakuru, one of the party coordinators in the Sub-region, says the demonstration strategy will not achieve anything to oust Museveni but a waste of time because the plan is useless and unrealistic to cause more tension against the innocent youth. Mr. Kakuru speaking……
Mr. Kakuru says their efforts should instead be directed at building party structures from the village level to win the hearts of more Ugandans by 2026. Mr. Kakuru speaking2…….
However, Innocent Natukunda, the leader of NUP coordinators in Tooro, has already come up to condemn Kakuru’s statements, saying they are against the party ideology. END
