Two people could have died from Lake Edward at Kayanja landing site in Nyakiyumbu Sub County in Kasese district, Kasese Guide Radio has learnt.
No official comment yet from police but Mr. Peter Sunday Kakule, the local council three Chairperson for Nyakiyumbu sub county confirmed the information and identified the deceased as Sibyabugha Baluku Difo 43 and Malikiyola Mumbere, a resident of Kiyonzo village in Karambi Sub County in Kasese district.
Mr. Peter said preliminary reports had indicated that the deceased were fishing from the illegal breeding zone from where a suspected Hippopotamus with her calf hit their canoe that later capsized.
The chairman who sympathized with the bereaved families, thanked God that at least one of the three fishermen survived the deadly incident on the lake.
A Kasese Guide Radio contact at the landing site, Mr. Amon Kibikyabu who called for lawful fishing plans, said that the search on the lake for the bodies was still on by this afternoon.
