The Kawempe North Member of Parliament, Muhamad Ssegirinya, will remain in Kitalya prison despite orders for his release.
The Buganda Road Court Grade One Magistrate, Doreen Olga Karungi, granted bail to the legislator on a cash bail of one million shillings and also ordered his two sureties each to sign a non-cash bond of 10 million shillings.
The sureties have also been advised to ensure that the accused returns to Court for trial on December 22, 2021.
In this case, Ssegirinya is being accused of inciting violence.
Meanwhile, the accused’s lawyer, Shamim Malenda, has put the prosecution side to task to adduce the evidence on which they are intended to base during the trial of her client to enable them to prepare his evidence in time.
On several occasions, different Courts have been granting bail to the lawmaker, but the Prison authorities could not allow him to leave their premises due to his other pending capital offences of terrorism and murder even when he is presumed innocent till proved guilty. END
