Kasese district has the entire disability community ranging over 45,000 PWDS.
Local statistics carried out by disabled people’s organization indicates, that
Out of these 480 are deaf per constituency of whom 52 can be trainable in various programs, indicating an increase of 0.02 per annum.
This was contained in a report read by the Executive director persons with disabilities center for social development-CESODE, Mr. Banjo Masereka during the launch of six month sign language Literacy to health service providers in Bukonzo west constituency funded by FCDE, held yesterday at Mpondwe-Lhubiriha town council hall.
Mr. Banjo, said there is lack of information on disability, therefore requiring viable system that can lobby and advocate for the rights and inclusion of PWDS for effective planning both at hospital, Health facilities and lower local government.
He said the disability council has formulated policies to apprehend medical workers who violate the rights of disabled persons, but the challenge is lack of adequate training among scientists.Mr.Banjo on PWDS policies…….
Mr. Banjo highlighted the major challenge facing the organization as lack of transport means to outreach those in need of the service.
Mr. Josephat Muhindo,ED Karambi group of people with disabilities, said he was implementing leprosy training among health workers in the constituency.
He asked parents and guardians living with disabled persons to speak out and access help from various organizations. END.
