The Electoral Commission has said that the European Union mission will have observers in next year’s general election.
Hajjat Aisha Lubega, the EC Vice-Chairperson yesterday said that contrary to their previous stand not to send election observers in the coming election, the EU delegation has now expressed interest to be participants.
Ms Lubega who chairs the EC Election Observer Accreditation Committee added that they are now working on the EU accreditation process.
Some of the organizations already cleared to observe the election are Intellectual Aid Network Uganda, Uganda National NGO Forum, Citizens’ Coalition for Electoral Democracy in Uganda and Alliance for Finance Monitoring among other observers. Ms Lubega speaking……
In June 2020, the Head of Delegation of the European Union to Uganda, Ambassador Attilio Pacifici said that the EU would not deploy election observers as Uganda votes in 2021 over the COVID-19 pandemic that had complicated the electoral process but were to use the domestic mechanism of collaborating with the Electoral Commission and Civil Society Organizations.
