    A UPDF soldier who shot a clergy man in kasese has been sentenced to 35 years imprisonment.

    The Division Court martial sitting at Karusandara primary school in Karusandara sub county ,Kasese district was yesterday(30 June 2020) sentenced  a UPDF soldier , Private Abraham Lokwap to thirty five year imprisonment and  Lt. Akampurira talent  to twelve month and acquitted two others for reportedly shooting an Anglican clergy man  Mr. Benon Musimenta.

    Delivering his  Ruling, the Chairperson  Court Martial for Mountain Division  Lt Col.Nyero Felix sentenced Private Abraham Lokwap to thirty five years after prooving guilty of murderuing late Benon Musimenta.

    The same court has sentenced Lt Akampurira Talent for twelve month at Makindye Military barracks for failing to execute his duties as two others Private Nyero Jackson and Private Otim Joel were acquitted of charges since they were not guilty.Lt Col.Nyero speaking……

    Court Prosecutor Lt Gabriel Mavengina had asked court to give death sentence to both Private Abraham Lokwap and Lt Akampurira Talent.

    The defence lawyer, Lt Col.Busulwa Godfrey asked court to give fewer sentences since it’s their first time.

    Lt Akampurira Talent and Private Abraham asked for less sentences since they are bread winners and they are orpans but court declined to agree on their plea.

    The Widow to late Benon Musimenta however told court that the sentence given to the offenders will not help her families but asked government to pay fees for her children.
