Over one thousand people who have been encroaching on land belonging to the Uganda Railways Corporation in Kasese Municipality have been given up to 30th this month to vacate.
In a statement issued yesterday by the Chairperson Project affected persons in Kasese Municipality, Mr. Kamuhanda Hassan Mutonya during a stakeholders meeting held at Kikonzo catholic church acknowledged having seen the eviction notice, saying the land would be used to revamp Railway guarge transport.
Mr.Kamuhanda who said three hundred homesteads were likely to be affected, asked the Kasese Municipality Member of parliament, Hon.Ferigo Kambale to negotiate with government about the delayed eviction of people along the railway line. Mr.Kamuhanda speaking…
Kasese Municipality MP, Hon Ferigo asked the affected homesteads to submit a report to his office within this morning so that he can negotiate with government as they run to court through their lawyer to submit their application to halt temporary eviction by the Uganda railways cooperation.

Mr. Pimako Kasereka, the LC 3 Chairperson for Nyamwamba division, tasked the affected people to collect documentation for any purported ownership by Uganda Railways cooperation for compensation.Mr.Pimako on railways….
Kasese Municipality Secretary for works and technical services, Hon. John Siriwayo, asked Government to provide a permanent settlement for the affected persons who have allegedly stayed on the land for quite a decade.

However, Uganda Railways Cooperation had informed the general public that whoever is illegally occupying, encroached and grabbed railway land in any location within Uganda, must vacate the same within a period of not more than 180 days that effective from April 1 2021. ENDS .
