Three people have drowned in Lake Bunyonyi in Butanda Sub County, Kabale district after a canoe in which they were sailing capsized.
The deceased have been identified as
John bosco Tumuheki, Felix Arineitwe and Firicano Turyahikayo, all residents of
Katetenkora village in Kabale district.
According to Tarasisio Barinde, an eye witness, the incident occurred at around
6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, when the canoe, which had six people on board was hit by
a strong wave.
Barinde says that both the deceased and survivors were heading home from a political youth meeting at Nyamiryango parish headquarters.

Another eye witness, Alex Nkwasibwe says that three of the survivors were rushed to Nyamiryango health centre II for first aid including Suzan Kabuzi among others.
In June this year, two people from
Muko sub-county, Rubanda district drowned in the same lake while travelling in
a canoe, yet similar incidents have been witnessed and several lives lost under
similar circumstances over the years.
In 2015, President Yoweri Museveni pledged to provide a ferry, since the only
available means of transport is by boat to the districts of Kabale and Rubanda.
However, the pledge has never been fulfilled. Ends .
