Election observers in Sierra Leone have voiced concern over incidents of violence and intimidation ahead of today’s presidential poll.
Observers from the African Union and the West African regional bloc, Ecowas, issued a joint statement urging political parties and their supporters to abide by the rule of law.
They also called on the security forces to remain calm.
On Wednesday, supporters of the opposition All People’s Congress clashed with the security forces near the party’s headquarters in the capital, Freetown. One person was killed.
President Julius Maada Bio is seeking re-election in the vote, which will be the fifth presidential poll since the end of the civil war in 2002. END.
