A police officer who survived the deadly attack on Kasese Police Barracks in Kasese Municipality in the early hours of Saturday, November 1, has given a traumatic account of how he and his colleagues came under assault from unknown armed men.
The victim, who requested anonymity for security reasons, sustained cuts on his neck, head and hands after one of the attackers hacked him with a machete.
He told the press in an exclusive interview today from his hospital bed that on the fateful morning, he was attacked and cut severally by the assailants as he allegedly attempted to fix a second bullet magazine on his gun during fire exchange, attributing his survival to God’s mercy, therefore seeking interface with the President. According to him, it was around 5:30a.m when the attackers armed with machetes and catapults raided the police barracks.
He noted that when the first gunshot was heard, the officers’ commanders quickly ordered them to take defensive positions and prepare to engage the attackers. He said the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldiers arrived at the scene about an hour later and together they battled the attackers until 9 a.m.

Other coordinated attacks were also carried in Bundibugyo district and Fort Portal Tourism City in Rwenzori West region where a soldier and a civilian woman were killed in Malindi in Bundibugyo district and 19 put out of action in Kasese with 40 arrested and detained at Rwenzori East region. In a statement issued on Saturday, Maj Gen Felix Kulayigye, the UPDF Director of Defece Public Information, condemned the attacks as an act towards destabilizing the prevailing peace in the country.
