Mr. Juma Munezero, who contested in the Busongora County South parliamentary race on an Independent ticket, has conceded defeat.
Mr. Munezero garnered 1,145 votes, against the declared winner and NRM candidate, Mr. David Isimbwa Mulindwa, who scored 10,845 votes.
Other contenders in the race included NUP’s Hon. Jackson Mbaju, who was seeking to reclaim the seat after losing it in 2021 and the subsequent by-election in 2022. Mr. Mbaju obtained 10,760 votes, falling short by a narrow margin of 85 votes.
The FDC candidate, Mr. Baguma Alozious Kighema, received 3,845 votes, while Sadrack Bakulirahi and Mr. Frank Asiimwe Barozisecured 322 and 222 votes respectively.
Despite conceding defeat, Mr. Munezero alleged that after tallying all his declaration forms from 142 polling stations across the entire constituency, the District Returning Officer should have declared, Hon. Jackson Mbaju Kathika, the winner of Busongora County South, and not Mr. Mulindwa.
