The National Council for Higher Education has clarified the use, and validity of a qualification that has quietly become a lifeline for dozens of political hopefuls: the Mature Age Entry Certificate.

In an exclusive interview with this radio station National Council for Higher Education spokesperson, Mr. Saulo Waigolo stressed that the document can only remain legally recognized as equivalent to a Senior Six qualification only within two years from the date the candidate sat the examination. The Mature Age Entry scheme, administered at only five accredited universities, Makerere University, Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Gulu, Bugema, and Islamic University in Uganda, was designed as a second-chance route into higher education for school dropouts or those who completed Ordinary Level many years ago.
