Mr. Emmy Kayiri, the Kasese Municipal Education Officer, has advised proprietors of primary schools to begin teaching Kiswahili, noting that Kasese is among the first three pilot districts to implement the program starting next year.
Presiding over the graduation of Top Class to Primary One at Horizon Primary School in Kirembe Ward, Central Division, Kasese Municipality today afternoon, Kayiri said Kiswahili is the most widely studied indigenous language in Africa.

He explained that Kiswahili, the national language of both Kenya and Tanzania, is spoken as a native language along the East African coast from southern Somalia in the north, through Kenya, and down to the Tanzanian coast.
Kayiri said some primary school teachers from the district have already undergone training in the teaching of Kiswahili. He added that Kiswahili lessons will start in Primary Four so that by the time learners complete Primary Seven, they are able to communicate and write the language fluently.
