By Kyamanduma Patrick,
Taxi drivers in Kasese Municipality have today resumed operations at the old taxi park after relocating from Kasese Roundabout, with a few passengers already loading and offloading, Kasese Guide Radio can reliably report.
The taxi park had been temporarily relocated to the Kasese Roundabout along the Kasese–Mbarara Highway during the construction of the new park under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) programme.
Mr. Jockus Matise, the Chairperson of Bwera Taxi Drivers, said the decision to return to the old taxi park was aimed at easing congestion at the Kasese Roundabout.
However, Mr. Jockus cited challenges with Kasese Municipal leadership, who reportedly informed the drivers that the old taxi park was still under development and that they were not permitted to resume operations there.

Meanwhile, one of the drivers, Mr. Bwambale Musilamu Yusuf, urged fellow drivers who are still operating outside the gazetted taxi park to return to the old taxi park for the safety of passengers and their property.

Kasese Municipal Authority had not yet commented on the allegations by press time. END
