By Peter Masereka,
A report from German doctors presented to the Bishop of the Diocese of Kasese, Rt. Rev. Francis Aquirinus Kibira Kambale, has linked the increasing number of disabilities among newborn babies in Kasese to teenage pregnancies.
In his remarks shortly after presiding over Holy Mass at Kabatunda Catholic Sub-Parish in Kitswamba Parish on Mondaywhere he administered the Sacrament of Confirmation and opened a new Eucharistic Center on Sunday, Bishop Kibira cited findings from the medical specialists who visited Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital late in October for a specialized treatment camp.
The doctors observed that many of the disabilities in children were connected to teenage pregnancies, noting that teenage mothers often skip antenatal services.
The prelate called for a collaborative effort among all stakeholders to end child marriages, stressing that such practices endanger the lives of young mothers, who often lack proper nutrition and consequently give birth to disabled and malnourished babies. Bishop Kibira one speaking…
He further attributed the recent attacks on security installations in Kasese and neighboring districts to ignorance stemming from lack of education.
