The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Force in collaboration with the Regional Immigration Office in Mbarara, has handed over five Congolese soldiers to the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Maj. Kiconco Tabaro, UPDF 2nd Infantry Division Public Information Officer, said the soldiers fled Goma in eastern DRC following intensified fighting and crossed into Uganda.
During the handover ceremony of Sergeant Kabangu Nsingi Jeancy, 33; Corporal Bloende Botelu Enoch and 35; Private Nkonyi Ngumu Mbuya, among others in Kasindi, Lhubiriha, along the Uganda–DRC Mpondwe border, Maj. Gen. Stephen Mugerwa, Commander of the UPDF Mountain Division, emphasized the strong cooperation between Uganda and DRC. On behalf of the DRC government, Maj. Gen. Everiste Somo Kakule, the Military Governor of North Kivu, commended the UPDF for the care shown to the soldiers while in Uganda. END
