At least 13 people have so far died out of the 1,386 individuals currently encamped at Muhokya Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in Muhokya Town Council, Kasese District, the camp chairperson, Ms. Aryema Rehema, has revealed.
Speaking to our reporter yesterday, Aryema, attributed the demise to poverty, non-communicable diseases, poor accommodation and a lack of balanced diet among others.
She referenced a presidential directive issued during a political campaign rally at Nyakasanga Playground recently, where the Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabanja and state House comptroller Jane Barekye, were directed to resolve the matter of permanently resettling IDP, s in Muhokya.
Aryema stated that the government had previously disbursed 1.2 billion shillings to purchase land for the IDPs in Muhokya, However, she questioned how the funds were allegedly diverted by what she described as “mafias.”, calling for an investigation about the perpetrators.

In his response, Kasese District Chairperson, Mr. Erifaz Muhindi, broke silence on the matter, publicly confirming that the government had released 1.2 billion shillings intended to purchase land for the permanent resettlement of the IDPs in Muhokya Town Council, but the so called “Mafias” swindled the funds. Muhindi, encouraged the victims to remain calm, assuring them that the government is working on securing new funds to facilitate the purchase of land for their permanent settlement, now that President Museveni has been notified about the recent defrauded funds. End
