Save the Children has embarked on a sensitization and experience sharing workshop of stakeholders in Kasese district as means to minimize disasters.
Speaking to Kasese Guide Radio after the first session at the Rwenzori International Hotel in Kasese Municipality yesterday, Mr. Erifaz Muhindi, the Kasese District local council five chairman, said whereas the local population may not have full control against disasters, the trainers were guiding local leaders on how prepared they can be to minimize the effects.
He also said the training was equally guiding the participants on proper implementation of human activities, most of which affect the environment if not well implemented. Mr. Muhindi speaking……..
In a separate interview in Kasese town last evening, Mr. Joseph Isingoma, the Kasese District disaster focal person, said the local council three chairpersons and their subcounty chiefs from the disaster prone subcounties of Karusandara, Maliba, Kyalhumba town council and Nyamwamba Division in Kasese Municipality, were being trained on how best they can prepare their communities to minimize disasters.

Mr. Isingoma was also concerned about the indiscriminative cutting of tree, unguided irrigation and sand mining activities along many rivers that put many communities in Kasese district at risk. END
