By Mathias Thembo,
Preliminary but yet to be confirmed reports in Kasese indicate that the opposition parties in the district may end up losing most of the positions in the yesterday’s subcounty and division local council three elections.
According to reports, the situation could have partly been caused by the low turn up in some areas fuelled by what some people called empty pledges and political addresses by the opposition political leaders.
Mr. Edmond Masereka, a local resident of Nyakalingojo and Ms Juliet Tushabe, local residents of Ibanda-Kyanya and Mubuku town councils respectively said, Kasese district no longer has a well composed opposition party to challenge the National resistance movement now that Forum for Democratic Change political party leadership seems broken across Uganda.
Mr. Kananga Edson, the FDC flag bearer for Mahango subcounty and Mr Geoffrey Bwambale an FDC die however blamed their loss on the late delivery of voting materials, most of them reaching polling stations after 9am. Mr. Geoffrey speaking…..
In a separate interview with Kasese Guide Radio last evening, Dr. Julius Bwambale Rude, the MP elect for Bukonzo County East, attributed the party success to the will of God and the voters who want to support and fully taste the NRM leadership whose manifesto was clearly interpreted to the local residents. Dr. Rude speaking…….
In a rare turn of political events, preliminary reports yet to be confirmed by Mr. Geoffrey Mbabazi, the Kasese District Returning Officer, indicate that Karusandara subcounty, could have voted for Mr. Samuel Kamara, a member of the opposition National Unity Platform led by Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu, as the local council three chairman, with all councillors from NRM. END
