Mr. Eliphaz Bukombi Muhindi, the Kasese District Chairperson has retained his seat after emerging victorious against two challengers in the just-concluded elections.
Muhindi secured the highest number of votes, defeating Mr. Geoffrey Sibendire Bigogo of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and Mr. Abdul Saad Thembo of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF).
The Kasese District Returning Officer, Mr. Godfrey Mbabazi, declared, Mr. Muhindi the winner today at 6:29 a.m. at Kasese Multipurpose Hall in Nyamwamba Division, Kasese Municipality. Mr. Muhindi garnered 83,794 votes, representing 51.4 percent of the total votes cast.
The announcement sparked celebrations among National Resistance Movement (NRM) supporters after it was revealed that Mr. Bigogo had obtained 73,111 votes (44.9 percent), while Mr. Abdul Saad Thembo received 5,517 votes.
Mr. Muhindi defeated Mr. Bigogo by a margin of 10,683 votes, breaking what has been described as a long-standing trend of single-term leadership in the district since 2011.
Speaking to the press shortly after his declaration, Muhindi attributed his victory to results-oriented leadership, citing improvements in road infrastructure, health services, education, and water access as key factors that earned him public trust. Mr. Muhindi speaking…..
With this victory, Mr. Muhindi becomes the eighth leader to hold the political mantle of Kasese District. His predecessors include, Mr. Moses Muhindo, Mr. Jethro Mbayahi, Mr. Barnabas Bwambale Bamusedee, Hon. Yokasi Bihande, Rev. Canon Julius Bwambale Kithaghenda and Brigadier Cyril Mawa Muhindo, before Mr. Bigogo assumed office.
