The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has issued a strict directive to all broadcasters and users of online communication platforms in Uganda, warning against the dissemination of un unofficial election results.
The directive, signed by UCC Executive Director Nyombi Thembo, comes ahead of the country’s upcoming elections.
In a January 7th, 2026 letter, under reference UCC/LA/35, the Commission reminded broadcasters that under Uganda’s electoral laws, the Electoral Commission is the only body authorized to tally, declare, and officially announce results.
Meanwhile, President Yoweri Museveni has declared January 15 and 16, 2026, public holidays to allow citizens across the country to fully participate in the forthcoming presidential and parliamentary elections. The declaration, made under Section 2(2) of the Public Holidays Act (Cap. 174), provides for a nationwide suspension of official business over the two days, giving voters ample time to exercise their civic rights.
