Parents and guardians in Kasese District have been urged to encourage school-going children to acquire at least one vocational skill alongside formal education, for a brighter future.
Speaking to our reporter at Holy Dove Vocational Secondary School in Kinyamaseke town council yesterday, the schoolHead Teacher, Mr. Godfrey Masereka, attributed the rising levels of youth unemployment to the growing desire for white-collar jobs without practical skills.
Mr. Masereka noted that, as Holy Dove implements the new curriculum, vocational studies are helping to reverse this trend.
He commended the school administration for establishing a fully-fledged vocational training centre aimed at empowering students with hands-on skills. Mr. Godfrey speaking…
He emphasized that both teachers and parents have a responsibility to guide the young generation in the right direction. Beyond classroom lessons, Holy Dove Vocational Secondary School offers more than eleven vocational skills, including welding, carpentry, electrical installation, catering, and salon, among others.
