By Jonex Babulya,
Five houses were reportedly destroyed by stray elephants this morning in Kahendero Cell, Muhokya Town Council, Kasese District.

No official statement yet from Police or the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), but the Local Council One Chairperson, Mr. Dan Katongole, suspects that the beasts, believed to have strayed from Queen Elizabeth National Park, destroyed property and left residents fearing for their lives.
Katongole, who noted that the community’s demand for compensation from UWA is often frustrated by bureaucracy, expressed concern that the implementation of government programs including the Parish Development Model may not yield much at the landing site, since most projects are frequently disrupted by wild animals. Mr. Katongole speaking.
Ms. Margaret Masemba, 47, Nantes Resty, 29, and William Mwesigwa, asked the government to extend electric fence to Kahendero fish landing site, especially along the lake shores, to protect the lives and property of Ugandans. Masemba and Resty speaking…
They also called for intensified patrols by park rangers and timely response whenever elephants invade their premises, rather than prioritizing revenue generation at the expense of people’s lives. END
