As Uganda joins the rest of the world to mark the International Women’s Day, today, professional women have blamed themselves for preferring not to uplift each other.
They agree that women everywhere like competition with each other at any opportunity, and this leads to ensuring that those in lower positions remain there, for fear of taking over.
These were some of the sentiments expressed at the first Women in Accountancy Forum held in Kampala as part of Women’s Day celebrations facilitated by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
The forum was organized to evaluate the performance of women in the profession, discuss why the numbers and the impact of female accountants remain low and what can be done.
In Uganda, while as many women as men are taking up accountancy courses, men account for 67.7 percent of accountants in the country.
Amuge also encouraged women not to stay in places where they are not being helped to grow, acknowledging that female bosses walk on their subordinates. End.
