    ZAMBIA: ZCCB Incoming Secretary General Dies

    Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) new Secretary General Fr. Kennedy Seketa has died.

    Fr. Seketa belonged to the Archdiocese of Kasama.

    Kasama Vicar General Very. Rev. Rodgers Fikwamo and ZCCB outgoing Secretary General Father Cleophas Lungu announced the sad news Friday 25th June, 2021.

    “Dear brother priests, it is with deep sorrow and sadness that I have to announce to you all the passing on to the Lord of Very Rev. Fr. Kennedy Seketa, ZCCB Secretary General,” Fr. Fikwamo stated.

    “The Archbishop, Ignatius Chama has just informed me about this sad news. Fr. Seketa is gone. Let us remain united in prayer. We keep the immediate family of Fr. Seketa in prayer. MHSRIP,” Fr. Fikwamo said.

    Meanwhile Father Lungu said in an announcement on Catholic Secretariat staff WhatsApp group that he was informed of the untimely death of Father Seketa on the morning of Friday, 25th June,2021.

    “Fr Brian Chibuluma called me this morning to relay the sad message that Fr Kennedy Seketa, Rector at St Dominic’s Major Seminary and in-coming ZCCB Secretary General, died in the night at Levy Mwanawasa. The hospital informed the Seminary about his passing on this morning. Very sad and heart breaking indeed. Let us all remember to pray for him, the bereaved family and the Archdiocese of Kasama,” he said.

    The Catholic Bishops of Zambia recently appointed Rev. Fr. Kennedy Seketa as the new Secretary General of Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB).

    Fr. Seketa who has been rector of St. Dominic’s Major Seminary was to replace Fr Cleophas Lungu who is completing his term of contract at the end of June 2021.

    Born on 29th March, 1970, Fr. Seketa was ordained priest for the Archdiocese of Kasama on 15th August, 1999 and served in his Archdiocese among others portfolios as Diocesan Pastoral Coordinator and Lay Apostolic Chaplain, Vicar General, National Liturgical and Biblical Coordinator.

    In 2012, he was appointed Vice Rector of St Dominic’s Major Seminary and the Rector in 2014 where he has been as serving as Rector.

    Fr Seketa holds a Masters/Licentiate (2008-2010) in Systematic Theology from Mary’s Seminary and University, Baltimore, USA.
