A masked criminal has attacked two Catholic nuns belonging to the congregation of Little Servants of Mary Immaculate (LSMI).

Sister Okafor Assumpta and Sister Matilda Mulengachonzi were stationed at Saint Barbara Parish, Kataba Township in Itezhi-tezhi District of Monze Diocese.

Zambia police service spokesperson Esther Katongo who has confirmed the development said the nuns were attacked at their convent by a masked male person who wanted to steal from them.

Ms. Katongo, explained that the incidence occurred on August 24, 2020 at around 21:00 hours.

“Details are that Police in the area received a report of ‘aggravated assault with intent to steal’ from the victims identified as Sister Okafor Assumpta aged 49 years and Sister Matilda Mulengachonzi aged 60 years both of Saint Barbara Parish in Kataba Township in Itezhi-tezhi District that they were attacked at their convent by a masked male person who wanted to steal from them,” she said.

“Sister Matilda sustained deep cuts on the forehead and head, with another injury on the eye while Sister Assumpta sustained a deep cut on the head after the criminal hit them with an iron bar. The two victims found the criminal attempting to break into the convent” Katongo explained.

The Provincial Superior Sr. Sylvia Kagulura described the incident as unfortunate. However, she could not give further comments on the matter.
