The Kasese District Principal agricultural officer, Mr. Julius Rukara has warned of repeated food scarcity in Kasese district should farming be left to the elderly weak people who can no longer adopt to new agricultural methods for improved quantities and qualities of crops.
Mr. Rukara was concerned that farming was treated as a duty for the illiterate elderly people and a punishment for the poor, leaving the energetic able men and women in patty jobs at many trading centers.
Addressing local council three Chairpersons of Bukonzo County West under their G8 forum held at Kayanzi landing site on Wednesday, Mr. Rukara called for mindset change that would see the energetic young men embrace agriculture than filling the boda-boda industry that does not directly provide to food security. Mr. Enos Nyabutundu said Hon. Godfrey Kabyanga, the State Minister for National guidance he represented was to come soon with the Agriculture Minister to deal with the challenges of the Mini-irrigations scheme in Katholhu.
He also said Hon. Kabyanga attributes under development in Kasese district to repeated diversionary trends that result into politics of conflict than concentrating on pressing issues of public interest.
