There was panic at Kasese Muslim Katadoba health Centre four in Kasese Municipality after a woman who had been admitted at the facility’s maternity Ward, was later diagnosed with Pseudocyesis.
According to the World Health Organization’s website, Pseudocyesis is the appearance of clinical or subclinical signs and symptoms associated with pregnancy although the individual is not physically carrying a baby
Ms. Rosette Masika not her real identity, she had attended antenatal care services many times after her pregnancy was believed to be, including all pregnancy signs and symptoms but shocked by news that she was carrying no baby. Ms Roset speaking……
Mr. Kisolhu Baluku, a brother-in-law to the woman said the yesterday’s incident was the second and that they were consulting medically about the causes and the possible remedies. Mr. Kisolhu speaking….
A medic at the facility confirmed the incident, calling for no alarm because phantom pregnancies do occur, partly forced by a strong desire by a woman to become pregnant. Health worker speaking……
The same WHO website indicates that Extreme fear of becoming pregnant, infertility, multiple miscarriages, loss of a child and emotional trauma are some of the reasons a woman may develop pseudocyesis. END
