The vetting committee of the Opposition National Unity Platform party has picked Kawempe North Member of Parliament, Mr Latif Ssebagala to contest for the Kampala mayoral seat.
The team found Mr. Sebaggala to be more suitable for the race compared to singer Joseph Mayanja aka Jose Chameleon.
Sources in the NUP camp say that the singer-cum-politician was dropped after failing to present appropriate academic qualifications which are necessary for nomination by the Independent Electoral Commission.
Sources say, Chameleon presented questionable A level credential and when the team asked him to produce his O level qualifications, he failed. Meanwhile the released list has already started sparking voices of discontent especially among the so called NUP-People power diehards some of whom have been dropped in the vetting process as they tried to aspire for the party ticket on several positions of councilors.
Mr. Joel Ssenyonyi, the party spokesperson who said that their party had done all it was required for transparency during the vetting told this radio this afternoon that the aggrieved aspirants were to lodge their complaints not later than 4pm today and must state specific grounds on which the appeals are premised.
