By Enos Masereka,
Waste management and disposal remain a major challenge in Kasese Municipal Council.
This is despite the town gaining a facelift under the USMID project.
Several parts of the town are littered with plastic bottles, polythene bags and papers among others.
At the restaurants, heaps of garbage from the kitchen are disposed of some in old polythene bags and others on the ground. Water from cooking and washing utensils is poured into taxi pathways.
Hon. Herbert Bwambale, the Kasese Municipal secretary for social services told our reporter today shortly after meeting the local council one chairpersons of Nyamwamba division at the division council hall, that 20,000 shillings token has been allocated to any person who has information with evidence about individuals littering the town. Hon. Robert speaking….
Chance Kahindo, the Municipality Mayor noted that the non-compliance by town residents in managing waste continues to affect the sanitation and image of the urban centre.
He attributes the challenge to people’s negative attitudes towards developing their town and promoting a good health environment. Christopher Kabagambe, the Kasese Municipal Principal Health Inspector says that amid poor garbage disposal, the town lacks public toilets with people turning to building corridors to ease themselves. END.
