President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has awarded his deputy Jessica Alupo with the prestigious Most Excellent Order of the Pearl of Africa.
Alupo, who is also the Katakwi Woman MP, was decorated during national celebrations of the International Women’s Day in Katakwi yesterday.
The ‘Most Excellent Order of the Pearl of Africa’ is the highest civilian honor in Uganda, established in 2001 under the National Honors and Awards Act.
The honor is reserved for heads of state, government leaders, and individuals who have made significant contributions to Uganda’s socioeconomic development.
Alupo joins a distinguished list of African leaders who have received this accolade, including Tanzanian former leaders Julius Nyerere (posthumous) and Jakaya Kikwete, Rwandan President Paul Kagame, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea, Zimbabwean President Emerson Mnangagwa, and Mozambican former President Armando Guebuza.
Museveni praised Alupo’s resilience and dedication to serving the nation during the decoration ceremony at Katakwi Boma Grounds.
He specifically highlighted her efforts in empowering women, recognizing her as inspiration of dedication.
At the ceremony, Vice President Alupo was joined by 57 other individuals, who were recognised for their outstanding contributions to various fields. END.
