Mr. Godfrey Mbabazi, the Returning Officer for Kasese District, has issued a strong warning to all candidates participating in the 2026 general elections, urging them to desist from voter buying and other forms of electoral bribery.

Addressing Parliamentary, District Chairperson, and Municipal aspirants during a campaign harmonization meeting held today at Kasese Multipurpose Hall, Mr. Mbabazi emphasized that such practices are not only unethical but also criminal under Uganda’s electoral laws.

He stated that candidates found engaging in such activities will face legal consequences.
Mr. Mbabazi further revealed that the Electoral Commission is working closely with security agencies to monitor and investigate any cases of voter bribery. According to Mr. Mbabazi, campaigns officially begin on November 10, 2025.
