The Communities neighboring national parks in Uganda have a reason to smile afterthe Minister for Tourism, Wild life and Antiquities, Hon. Tom Butime announced that the statutory instrument regarding compensation for loss of property and life, was to be signed next month.
Addressing stakeholders at Rwenzori International hotel in Kasese Municipality today, Hon. Tom Butime who called for transparency in the compensation plans, said he was aware that the law would be costly at the implementation levels but was long overdue.
The minister who was at Rwenzori International hotel in Kasese Municipality to hand over the 20 percent share to thirteen districts neighboring national parks in Rwenzori Sub region, said the three billion shillings is a conditional grant to the beneficiaries who must stick to their work plans if the money was to be relevant to them. Ferigo Kambale was excited about the compensation plans announced by the Tourism Minister, adding that he had already reminded him about the need to complete fencing works along Queen Elizabeth national park for the safety of the community. In his report to the Minister earlier, the Chief Executive officer Uganda Wild life Authority, Mr. Sam Mwandha said they are finalizing plans for another seventy kilometers of electric wire fencing in the thirteen districts, focusing on the most affected parts of the communities to save lives and property.
