The Uganda People’s Defence Forces working side by side with the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo under Operation Shujaa has rescued 23 people who had been abducted by the Allied Democratic Forces rebels.
According to Maj Bilal Katamba, the Mountain Division and Operation Shujja Spokesperson, the joint forces engaged with the ADF near River Malibongo in Ituri Province leading to the rescue of the abductees who comprise 16 females, seven males and 13 minors, were received at the UPDF tactical headquarters in Luna in Ituri Province.
Maj. Katamba revealed that among the minors are three infants under the age of one year who are severely malnourished and are receiving emergency care.
On Monday last week, UPDF handed over 22 Congolese nationals who had been abducted by the ADf to the Congo government after rehabilitation and skills training to create income generating activities to help them survive. END
