The Grade One Magistrate’s Court in Mbarara has charged Ms Doreen Atwongyirwe, a lecturer at Bishop Stuart University and a resident of Katete Central Cell, with causing grievous harm to her maid.
Ms Atwogyirwe who appeared before Her Worship Bagala Esther yesterday, is currently in the coolers at Mbarara Government Main Prison till October 15th.
According to the charge sheet before Court, on the 25th of September 2024, Ms Atwongyirwe, while in Katete Central Cell, poured hot water on her maid, Ms Anita Kansiime, causing grievous harm largely because the she did not bath the suspect’s children in time.
At her sickbed at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, Ms Anita said the suspect grabbed a jug containing hot water meant to bath the second baby, poured it and caused bodily harm on her.
Mr. Stephen Muganga, a human rights activist, stated that it was shameful for a university lecturer to commit a crime and attempt to obstruct justice. END
