United National Children’s Fund-UNICEF in partnership with Kasese district local government has launched a campaign dubbed “go back to school, stay in school, and complete school” to address school dropout rates.
Young advocates and adult champion’s volunteers will support the campaign.
The 127 volunteers have undergone special training to give them the skills on how they can interact and interest their peers to return to school.
The campaign which ends on December 31st this year also targets teenage mothers who could have dropped out of school due to giving birth or marriage during the Covid-19 lockdown.
According to statistics from the Kasese district education department, 7,319 teenage pregnancies were reported in 2021 alone.
Ms. Jane Afoyo, an education specialist at UNICEF, said the campaign is intended to encourage parents, guardians, and all relevant stakeholders to support dropouts to return to school until they complete their studies.

Mr. Ernest Bwamable, the Kasese district inspector of schools said the campaign is a drive to remind young children that learning is the most important activity in their life.
He added that it also becomes a task for all stakeholders to knowledge that quality education is a responsibility of everyone in the district.
