Mr. Feisal Komungaro, the Central Division town clerk in Kasese Municipality has called for collaborated efforts among civil society organizations, technical and political leaders against illegal garages that spill oils at will, thereby, damaging the environment.
Addressing stakeholders during the World Environment Day celebrations for Kasese Municipality held at St. Peter’s primary school over the weekend, Mr. Feisal was concerned about the un regulated garages mainly in the urban areas that were slowly but steadily being polluted.
Representing Mr. Godfrey Bamanyisa, the Kasese Municipal town clerk, Mr. Faisal said oil spills can have severe and widespread negative impacts on the environment, including water and soil contamination, harm to wildlife and disruption of ecosystems, as well as negative effects on human health. The local council three chairperson for Nyamwamba division, Mr. Pimako Kasereka, asked the local community members to promote activities that will not interfere much with soil formation and ecosystems that have always been largely the cause of floods and mudslides along the Nyamwamba river valley like on many rivers in Kasese district.
