Umbrella for Journalists Kasese-UJK has donated one thousand bamboo seedlings to plant along the River Bank of Nyamugasani and bare hills in Kyalhumba Sub-County as a mitigation measure to control the effects of floods.
Ms. Rusiya Musoki, the Project Officer said the campaign of growing Bamboo trees is being spearheaded by UJK in collaboration with the local community to tame disaster occurrences that have continuously affected Kyalhumba and the entire district.
Addressing residents of Mughanza village in Kanyatsi Parish in Kyalhumba Sub County yesterday after handing Bamboo seedlings to the beneficiaries, Rusiya who urged them to plant according to the guidance of the Agricultural Officer by leaving four meters away from the River Bank, noted that since 2013 the District has since witnessed Disasters including floods, landslides and drought causing great loss of property and human lives, a challenge UJK wisely thought could partly address.

Mr. Absolom Mumbahya, the Local Council one Chairperson for Mughanza Village called for urgent plans by Government to Procure a D10 excavator to do routine mantainace along the stubborn River Nyamugasani.
He asked UJK to provide more Bamboo seedlings but also called for teamwork and mindset change among the residents. Mr. Absolom Speaking….
Mr. Simon Bikeke, the Coordinator UJK explained that the organization is working with partners in development to ensure that the Bamboo tree project trickles down to all locals in Kasese District. END.
