Kyalhumba sub county Council in Kasese district has passed a proposed budget estimated to about 81 million shillings for the financial year 2025/6, Kasese Guide Radio has learnt.
Presenting the budget estimates during their conference held at Kabughabugha Church of Uganda yesterday, Mr. John Nkundizana, the sub-county accountant, said there has been a slight decrease of about four million shillings in the budget compared to last year but that the subcounty had prioritized Health, Education and production among others.
Mr. Nkundizana who listed central government releases, grants and local revenue as revenue sources, said low political will, gaps in local revenue mobilization strategies by parish chiefs, inadequate funding for technical staff and poor revenue sources among members of the public, as some of the challenges. Presenting the environment and Natural resource’s report, Mr. Joelesi Serebethe, the assistant subcounty chief, was concerned about the indiscriminative cutting but low pace in tree planting that translate into frustrating environment, including soil erosion, land and mudslides mainly on hilly areas. Mr. Hamidu Rwamba, the community conservation ranger for Rwenzori Mountains National Park, warned community members against poaching whose punishment was currently harsh but rather apply for clearance for herbs and firewood among other requirements, save for meat and live tree logs.
