A section of market vendors at Kizungu Market in Nyamwamba Division, Kasese Municipality, have called for an audit of 37 million shillings spent on the construction of a roof shade at the market.
Earlier today, a team led by the Kasese District Assistant Resident District Commissioner, Ms. Justine Muhindo, the Kasese Municipal Agricultural Officer, Mr. Asanairi Bukanywa, and several municipal councilors visited the market to assess the progress and quality of the construction work.
Ms. Medrice Masika, Ms. Esther Makoma, and Ms. Esther Mubunga, among other vendors, expressed dissatisfaction with the project, telling the visiting officials that the structure is not worth the 37 million shillings.
They pointed out that the shade is too small to accommodate all the vendors currently operating in the market.
The vendors also criticized the lack of a drainage plan in the design, noting that the market is prone to frequent flooding from River Nyamwamba.
