Lt. Col. Israel Bagenda Kaheru, the Commandant of the fifth mountain battalion based in Rusese in Mpondwe Lhubiriha town council in Kasese district has said this week`s attacks and killings in Nobil, Jiapanda and Kamango in the DR Congo, about five kilometers from the Ugandan border in Bundibugyo, is a situation that calls for more vigilance by Ugandans living along the DRC-Ugandan border.

Addressing the local community in Kinyamaseke town council after the army week in the area yesterday, Lt Col. Kaheru said interligiance reports had indicated that some ADF ruminants may infiltrate the community now that there is overwhelming heat caused by the strategically coordinated operation Shujja in the DR Congo.

Lt. Col. Kaheru who calls for close collaboration between the UPDF and the local population, ask the locals to report to authority any suspicious element in their area. Lt Col. Kaheru speaking……

Earlier yesterday, Mr. Amos Asiimwe, the Bundibugyo Resident District Commissioner said the number of Refugees from DR Congo was overwhelming over the attacks but that they were screening and settling them in different places in the district as proper plans are being thought of. Mr. Asimwe speaking………

Maj. Peter Mugisa, the UPDF Mountain division spokesperson however warned that the ADF attacks on Nobili near the border with Uganda could be a deception tactic to draw the UPDF’s attention from hunting them in Virunga forest and focus their attention on the borderline. END.
