As Uganda joins the rest of the world to commemorate world Hepatitis day, everyone is being urged to get tested for hepatitis and get on treatment early before it is too late.
The call was sounded by the Hepatitis focal person Great Lakes Peace Center Kasese district, Mr. Arafat Bwambale Sunguluka as part of the efforts to raise awareness about this lethal and preventable viral disease that affects the liver causing liver cancer.
This year’s theme is “one life one liver we can’t wait” It calls for action to accelerate elimination efforts of viral hepatitis now and the urgent need for testing and treatment for the real people who need it.
Uganda is one of the countries with the highest prevalence of hepatitis B globally.
Arafat suggests that everyone should get tested and that communities should avoid stigamisting people who test positive for hepatitis.
