The appointment of His Lordship Paul Ssemogerere as the new Archbishop for Kampala Archdiocese has been received with joy and excitement by the Christians in Uganda.
The news of his appointment came on 9th December 2021, announced by the Apostolic Nunciature in Uganda..

Immediately, the Deputy Speaker of the National Parliament of Uganda Rt. Hon Annet Anita sent a congratulatory message that went viral on social media. She congratulated the new Archbishop and pledged dedicated support to him during his pastoral ministry in Kampala and the Church at large.
Until now, His Lordship Paul Ssemogerere has been the Bishop of Kasana-Luwero Diocese. At the same time, he was serving as the Apostolic Administrator of Kampala Archdiocese since the seat fell vacant following the demise of his predecessor Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga on 3rd April 2021.
The Most Rev. Paul Ssemogerere was born on 30th June 1956 in Nkumba, Kampala Archdiocese.
After his primary and secondary school education in Kigero (1964-1966), Kisubi (1967–1971) and Katende (1972-1976) respectively, he entered in the Mayor Seminary of Philosophy of St Mbaaga, Kampala in 1976-1978) and studied Theology in St. Francis, Milwaukee in United States (1978-1982), where he obtained a Master in Divinity.
He was ordained priest of the Archdiocese of Kampala on 3rd June 1983 by Cardinal Emmanuel Nsubuga.
As a priest, he served as a Teacher at Nswanjere Junior Seminary in1982-1983 and in 1983-1987, he was given the responsibility to serve as Teacher and Vice-Rector at the same Seminary while in 1987-1990 he was appointed Parish Priest at Nyenga Parish and in 1990-2008, he served as Paris Priest of Christ the King Parish, Kampala and as Dean of Christ the King Deanery in 1991-1999.
Furthermore, on 30th October 1999-23rd August 2008, he became the Vicar General of Kampala Archdiocese. Whereas on 1st February 2007–23th August 2008, he served as Vicar General and Episcopal Vicar of Kampala Vicariate.
He was on 4th June 2008 appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Kasana-Luweero and on the 23rd August the same year, he received the Episcopal Consecration.
