A delegation from Mahagi Territory in Ituri Province in the Democratic Republic of Congo led by Deputy Commissioner Administrator Col. Cloud Ntumba Kalala, held an emergency meeting with their counterparts from Uganda.
The Uagndan delegation was led by Resident District Commissioner for Zombo district, Rtd Lt Col. Pius Alitema over the weekend.
The meeting was called after two weeks of protracted clashes over territorial boundaries between communities in one of the porous borders at Padea town council and Abanga sub-county in Zombo district.
The tension reached a climax on Wednesday last week when the local leadership of Acu village in Mahagi territory, Ituri province of DRC, mounted four barricades inside Ugandan soil with the intention of revenue collection.
This move disrupted peace and economic activities, and movement was cut off, including digging gardens and fetching water.
Col. Cloud Ntumba Kalala told the dialogue that they are enjoying services, such as health and education from Uganda among others, and urged the people to remain calm as he consults Kinshasa and their counterparts in Kampala for a lasting solution about the right boundaries. Col. Ntumba speaking………
Rtd. Col. Alitema, the Zombo Resident District Commissioner described the meeting as a great pillar for peace, confirming that they are working together for the peace of civilians in both countries. END
