He said road accidents are reducing of recent after the commercial cyclists complied to traffic rules enforced under the renewed country wide road safety operation against the offenders.
About a fortnight ago, ASP Farida Nampima, announced a traffic operation that commenced on November 7 targeting cyclists without helmets, reflector jackets, third party insurance, over loaders, driving permits and those without driving mirrors.
ASP Nelson said whereas the region was registering more than 10 motorcycle accidents a week attributed to poor commercial riders, only two had been registered in two weeks.
ASP Nelson who reported that more than one million eight hundred thousand shillings had been collected in fines from errant riders, added that the number of impounded motorcycles in the second week reduced to 63 compared from 114 at the start of the operation.
