Transport is on standstill between Kanungu and Rukungiri following mudslides that have cut off the road connecting the two districts.

Mr. Gad Rugaaju Ahimbisibwe, the Kanungu Deputy Resident District Commissioner has confirmed the development and advised locals to use Kanungu-Kambuga road as an alternative.

According to Rugaaju, other roads that such as Kanungu-Rutenga connecting Hamurwa in Rubanda district and Kanungu-Mukatojo road are also unmotorable.

Mr. Rugaaju however says that the problem may stay for about a week since Uganda National Roads Authority is still rehabilitating Kanyantorogo-Buhoma tourism road that was seriously damaged by mudslides last week. Mr. Rugaaju speaking……

Mr. Wilfred Tumuheirwe, Bikomero Village chairperson in Katungu parish in Rugyeyo Sub County had earlier said that although the road has been slippery due to the current rains, the situation went out of hand in the wee hours today. END
