Truck and bus drivers have asked police not to penalize them, but their bosses for driving vehicles in dangerous mechanical conditions.
The drivers, who attended the second annual professional driver’s conference in Kampala said the police reprimand the wrong people because some factors are beyond their control.
One driver who preferred anonymity said he told his bosses that the truck had worn-out tyres but he insisted that he would replace them upon returning to Kampala.
The driver said a few kilometers past Busia town, he was stopped by traffic police which slapped him with a fine of over 200,000 Shillings.
