Traders dealing in the sale of animals for ‘Eid al Adha celebrations have decried the low turn up of Moslems who buy sacrificial animals due to the high prices of animals.
Eid al Adha is one of Islam’s main festivals when Muslims slaughter animals and give meat to the needy to commemorate the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son on God’s command.
Several people say that higher prices blamed of fuel prices mean they can’t afford the important tradition.
The Senior District Veterinary Officer, Dr.Kibaya Yusuf said only two hundred cows were slaughtered in Kasese District today compared to over three hundred that were slaughtered last Eid al Adha celebrations.
Dr.Kibaya told Kasese Guide Radio at Kasese Muslim Primary School in Kasese town, that all the two hundred cows slaughtered were thoroughly inspected by Veterinary officers and believed for consumption.
