By Francis Muhindo,
Traders in Kyarumba Town Council in Kasese District are concerned over poor hygiene and sanitation conditions in the Market, which they say are endangering public health.
Mr. Isaya Mugisa, a vendor at the market, expressed deep fear over the lack of a functioning public toilet facility.
He revealed that due to this challenge, some vendors have resorted to using polythene bags and neighboring pit latrines to ease themselves a situation he believes poses a serious health threat to the local community.
He appealed to both the Kyarumba Town Council authorities and the Central Government to urgently construct new public toilet facilities, warning that a disease outbreak may be imminent if nothing is done.

In response, Mr. Ivan Bibuwa, the Local Council III Chairperson for Kyarumba Town Council, attributed the toilet blockage to technical problems. However, he reassured the public that the authorities are committed to restoring the facility as soon as possible.

Mr. Bibuwa also called on the traders to make proper use of the dustbins provided by the town council in an effort to improve hygiene and sanitation at the market. END
