Kasese District Veterinary Officer Dr. Yusuf Kibaya, has announced a ban on trade and transportation of cows into Kasese from the neighboring districts, with immediate effect.
He said the cows ferried from the districts of Ntungamo, Kazo, Kiruhura and Rakia have been restricted from entering Kasese following the outbreak of foot and mouth disease.
The ban follows the yet to be confirmed reports of animals exhibiting foot and mouth disease symptoms.
According to Dr.Kibaya, the animal check point at Kikorongo junction have been instructed not to allow cows from the neighboring districts cross to Kasese for the safety of people’s lives.

Other measures put in place by the district include, farmers being directed to report any animal showing signs of foot and mouth disease, disinfesting all farm visitors and limiting the number of visitors.
